Code the What is Code the Future?
Code the Future is a hands-on, year-round AI literacy program and learning platform for kids ages 8–11 in Louisville, Kentucky. Kids learn what artificial intelligence really is by using it — through game-like missions and a weekly in-person session at the public library.
What ages is it for?
It's designed for kids ages 8 to 11. The curriculum was built with a child psychologist to be developmentally right for that age range.
How much does it cost?
Each module is $75, and the all-four bundle is $225 — a $75 savings. A $10 deposit holds your seat and is fully credited toward tuition.
When does the next cohort start?
The next cohort starts Monday, September 28, 2026 and runs through Demo Day on October 24. Code the Future is a year-round program — see current cohorts.
Where does it take place?
Kids meet for a weekly 90-minute hands-on session at the Louisville public library, and keep going with game-like missions at home on our web platform.
Does my child need any coding or AI experience?
No experience needed. Missions start from the very beginning and build up step by step, so total beginners are right at home.
Is it safe, and what about my child's privacy?
Yes. Kids join with a cohort code and no email or personal information is required from children. Cohort chat passes a profanity filter and is visible to staff, there are no ads, and the curriculum was designed with a child psychologist. More on our privacy page.
Do kids use real AI?
Yes. Rather than watching videos about technology, kids use real AI tools — drawing for an AI that actually recognizes their picture, training their own mini-models, and building projects — all in a safe, guided way.
What will my child actually learn?
Kids learn what AI is and how it works (patterns, prediction, training), how to use it well, and — most importantly — how to think critically: asking good questions, spotting wrong answers, and knowing when to trust the machine.
What do we need at home?
Just a tablet or laptop with internet. The platform runs in a web browser — nothing to install.
Who teaches it?
Sessions are led by a coach who works in the industry, alongside a child psychologist who helped design the curriculum. Code the Future was founded by Jon Nichols and Kenya Guarnieri, both Louisville parents.
